We are having a Snow Day without the Snow!!!

The phone call came at 5:30 am and suddenly this day had new life!!! We do not actually have any pretty white snow on the ground...what we have is a very cold day with all the fixin's for a bad commute (wet roads, 20 degree temps, and sleet)...so our district just gave us a freebie!!! YEAH!!!! Davis was one happy little boy this am!! This is what a snow day looks like......
This past week we have put almost all our energy into the Pinewood Derby, for you non Boyscout folks...it is a big car race where you make your own cars! And let me be the first to tell you that the MAN FOLK take this task VERY SERIOUSLY!!!! I really thought Rich and Davis were overdo-ing it....until we got to "impound night"....yeah seriously they make you weigh and measure in (like flippin weight watchers) and then they impound your car overnight so you can not make any changes before the race....seriously....mind blowing. I've never seen the Girl Scouts do anything like this.... I know selling cookies is getting competitive....but not like this...Impounding cars!!!!
So Friday night if you went early, you could give your car a try on the track. You would not believe the equipment whipped out by some of these dads after they saw their car's performance. There was adding weights and ripping off of weights. Dads were gluing all their loose change to the cars in their need for speed!!! Even a couple moms came in luggin' tool boxes like pit crew members...beats anything I have ever seen!!! I am surprised someone did not slap me silly that night I must have just been standing there with my chin on the ground....they take this seriously!!Not sure if it is Texas, or men, or building your own car, or what brought out the competition....but man oh man was it alive and well in garages all over Haslet the last few weeks!! They warned me about this at the Raingutter Regatta....but it still surprised me!!

The races were very "official" they had a computer hooked to the track and it listed the cars, their speed and their places. Rich added his projector to that...so all that info was projected on the wall....very impressive!!! Rich's car....I mean Davis' car had 3 second place finishes and one third.....He came in 4th for all the Tiger Cubs!!! We were very happy with that, especially me sinceI had no idea how big a deal this was....Next year we are out for 1st. I think I will head to the Boy Scout Store next week so they can take all the lessons they learned and start on next years car.......ha ha!!!

Hope you are all warm and toasty!!!
